Classic opener. You can't reliably diagnose a roof from the pavement. This is a hook to get up your ladder.

Pressure to decide today
“We can do it now while we're here” / “this price is only good today.” Any honest roofer will give you time to think.

A verbal price is meaningless. You need it itemised, on letterhead, with a start date and a guarantee period.
